The penis festival, or UTAMARO festival is famous around the world as japanese crazy phallus festival. The festival is called KANAMARA festival in Japanese, it is held in April first Sunday every year in KAWASAKI city. Especially, the pink MIKOSHI (portable shrine) became well known by foreigner.

The faith of phallus has wishness of fertility, pray for prosperity of descendants, elimination of disease, and warding off evil spirits. There are various faith, and various festival.

For example, UTAMARO festival pray for prosperity of descendants, matchmaking, blessed with children, and getting better disease of genital organs.
Because the festival was held by prostitute in EDO period, they pray for thriving business and protection from disease of genital organs. Derived from that, the festival is believed as love deity.
